Flynn Gerard is a 16-year-old driver entering Circuit Excel for the 2027 season with Series X3 NSW — his first season of wheel-to-wheel circuit racing. Every part of the programme is being built from the ground up: earning toward the car, sourcing and preparing it to category regulations, sitting the Motorsport Australia Circuit Licence test, and developing race craft through club test days ahead of Round 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
That includes the unglamorous side of the build too — mowing lawns, taking on weekend work, and pitching local businesses directly for support — because in a grassroots category like this, the effort off-track is what earns the laps on it. Circuit Excel is a control-spec category by design: sealed engines and control tyres across the field, which puts the emphasis squarely on driving standard and consistency rather than budget. That's precisely what makes it the right proving ground for the goals below.

It's a long way from a Hyundai Excel grid in NSW, but the fundamentals are the same ones being built right now: race craft, discipline, and the ability to get the most out of equal equipment.
